I open my eyes slowly to the early morning glow reflecting above me.
I roll over, stretch my arm over the bedside and down to the floor, in search of my phone. I roam my hand across the carpet until I feel the plastic rectangular shape between my fingers. I flip it over and press the home button—the screen illuminating the space before me and simultaneously blinding my eyes. .
‘5:07am,’ I manage to read through squinted eyes.
“Why am I up so early?” .
I rolled back over, once again facing the window and the glinting sunlight peering through the blinds. I used to wake up early every morning to watch the sunrise. The blended red, orange and yellow hues ascending above the horizon would bring me to the perfect place of peace—an awakening dream. .
